Silvertips prepare for NHL team in Seattle
EVERETT — Zoran Rajcic was bracing for the possible arrival of the NHL in the region long before last week’s press conference. The Everett Silvertips’ assistant general manager, who is in charge of the team’s business operations, has heard the rumblings for months. Last week’s announcement by the City of Seattle and San Francisco-based hedge-fund manager Chris Hansen, detailing a proposal for a $500 million-dollar arena that would house NHL and NBA teams, appears to bring the possibility of professional hockey to the region one step closer.
NHL teams start scavenging for grit and good deals
As the Feb. 27 NHL trade deadline approaches and the Toronto Maple Leafs and other teams play a waiting game on Columbus marksman Rick Nash, rebuilding has been taking place elsewhere as teams with Stanley Cup dreams scavenge from teams that are already looking for next season. On Tuesday, the Detroit Red Wings acquired defenceman Kyle Quincey in a three-team deal that moved tough forward Steve Downie from the Tampa Bay Lightning to the Colorado Avalanche.
NHL results, Feb. 21
Steven Stamkos had a big game right after saying goodbye to a popular teammate. The All-Star forward scored his league-leading 41st and 42nd goals and added an assist as the Lightning beat the visiting Ducks 3-2 on Tuesday after making a big, three-team pregame trade.

By The Associated Press | Associated Press – CHICAGO – Corey Crawford made 31 saves to lead the Chicago Blackhawks to a 2-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday night in a matchup of Central Division rivals missing their top centres. Jimmy Hayes scored the tying goal in the second period and set up Marcus Kruger’s winning score in the third as Chicago earned its fourth consecutive victory since a nine-game losing streak
NHL says sale of Phoenix Coyotes not imminent
The National Hockey League is denying reports that the Phoenix Coyotes sale is imminent. In recent days, several outlets have passed along reports that a sale to former San Jose Sharks Chief Executive Officer Greg Jamison is close to being finalized.
Adrian Dater: Ducks not dead in NHL Power Rankings
While we all breathlessly await Monday’s NHL trade deadline (or what I like to call “Men in suits checking their Blackberries around a glossy TV studio table”), there is still hockey to be played by the players who haven’t been moved yet — which if you believe the rumors, will account for half the league. There is no change at the top here this week, as you just can’t put a team that has won 23 in a row at home anywhere but at No. 1

NHL Capsules: Blackhawks stop losing skid with win over East-leading Rangers
NEW YORK, N.Y. – Jonathan Toews scored on a penalty shot to start Chicago’s four-goal first period against New York backup Martin Biron, and the Blackhawks emphatically snapped a nine-game losing streak with a 4-2 victory over the Eastern Conference-leading Rangers on Thursday night. Toews kicked off the spree just over a minute in, defenceman Nick Leddy doubled the lead 1:03 later, and Patrick Sharp and Marian Hossa added goals to make it 4-0 before 10 minutes had elapsed.
NHL plans to keep closer eyes on clocks
The Los Angeles Times reported Thursday that officials in the NHL’s situation room will observe the final minute of each period of each game more closely and will refine the overall game-timing process as the result of the league’s investigation into a pause of the Staples Center clock Feb. 1 in a Los Angeles Kings game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. That hesitation added a second to the final period and allowed Kings defenseman Drew Doughty to score the winning goal.
